You know what?  I'm gonna give the Cerritos Guppy 1 more star just because it's the ORIGINAL.  It makes me sad that Guppy is opening everywhere!  It's gonna be like Krispy Kreme - used to be special, but once it started opening in every city, no one wanted it anymore.

I came here tonight to grab some boba with a friend.  I still think the decor is tacky, and I would still rather get food to go  than wait in the ever-present line, but the food and drinks are bomb so...I'm gonna keep supporting the ORIGINAL (yes, I'm gonna keep stressing that) location of Guppy Teahouse.

If you are not Asian, do not come here.
If you are Asian, still don't come here.
Guppy's at night is like a deleted scene from Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. The parking lot is full of rice rockets owned by spoiled Cerritos KP thugs that pollute the outside of this place with cigarette smoke and give non Asian people like me the worst attitude.
The service is no different. The people working are rude and take about forever and a half to bring anything out. Food is especially bad, since not only does it lack flavor but it is ridiculously expensive. 6$ for popcorn chicken when there's a KFC across the street and I can get the same thing except better and cheaper. The shaved ice is good but you can go to just about any boba place around here and get the same thing in half the time and attitude.

Looks like they've finally expanded this place after the mass crowds.  This has definitely helped with the problem of waiting for a table.  There also might be less crowds due to the multiple locations that opened around other surrounding cities as well.  However, I must say the use of plastic sauce containers to hold candles is not only ghetto, but an accident waiting to happen.

Finally got to try the palace of shaved ice.  The place appears to be a late night high school hangout so the place can actually be quite crowded and loud. The "small portion" of shaved ice can literally feed 4 people and there's enough fruit leftover to make a small smoothie.  Asking for extra condensed milk is a must.  The brick butter toast tasted just like those pepperidge farm chessmen cookies.  Pretty good dessert place if you find yourself in Cerritos.

The service here has gotten dramatically worse and I have created a yelp account just to talk about it.  I have been going to this particular Guppy's for about six years, since I was in High School.  Portions remain generous, but it is not worth the atrocious food.
In the beginning Guppy's was able to provide High School students with a late night hang out.  You could count on a variety of teazers, slushes, and boba drinks as well as the variety of food dishes.  This was the first hang out in the Cerritos were minors could enjoy a late night boba as most places would close at 10 PM.  At that moment I would've given Guppy's 4 stars because it exceeded my expectations.  However, as time went on the service became worse and the food followed the same route.
Today, you can be guaranteed late service where it takes servers 15 minutes to come to your table and another 20 minutes to get boba.  Now some may say this is an isolated incident, but this has been occurring during the last several times I have ventured there.   When you receive your drink make sure you request NO BOBA due to the fact that there boba is now hard as rocks.  Sometimes I wonder if they even want my money as it was 30 minutes without a single employee venturing outside to inquire if we were finished.
Please do not support this establishment and try somewhere else, you will be angered...

Guppy Teahouse where the median age on a Sunday night is about 19 and on a weekend it probably drops to like 15 or something.  Even though this place is full of teeny boppers it never stops my friends and I from coming here to get our fix of their yummy deserts.

The guppy special is perfect.  It comes with a large bowl of shaved ice with strawberries.  Add mangos and boba on the side--so yummy!  The special also comes with brick toast, which is a huge piece of toast that has a stick of butter melted on the top with coconut and sugar.  Add vanilla ice cream--makes it that much better.  It also comes with a side of popcorn chicken.  This is a perfect combination for those who can't decide on what to get.  FYI make sure there's at least 4 people in your party--cause it's a lot of food.

The service here is non-existent.  They pretty much take your order, serve your food, and give you your check.  They don't check up on you at all to make sure everything is ok.  But I have to say they do have some good music playing--anything from the current top 40 jams, to slow jams that remind me of high school and even OPM hits.  They've also opened up several locations so it doesn't seem as crowded these days.

So they expanded it again and changed up the inside.  It looks pretty much the same, just bigger.  I'm downgrading the starage.. cause the service again is back to bad if not worse.  There's this one chick that works there that has the biggest attitude.  You'll ask her for something and she basically rolls her eyes at you.  Then, this other waitress was talking about how disgusting it was for these people who chose to sit at this one particular outdoor table with bugs flying around it.  She kept on repeating how "disgusting" it was very loudly so that all the people who were waiting to get in could not help but hear her.  Thought it was unprofessional, but hey.. what can you expect - these are probably these kids first jobs.

If you're into the whole parking lot full of wannabe fast & furious asian boys with rice rockets that are "fast" standing around then this is the place for you.

The parking lot may seem bad, but thats only the beginning. This place is chaotic and EXTREMELY unorganized. It takes FOREVER to get a table (if you're even lucky to get one). The waitresses are idiots that don't care about taking your order let alone actually TRYING to get your order right.

*You wait to get a table
*Then you finally sit down & wait for the waitress to realize that you are sitting at her table and she should probably take your order!!
*You finally order, but your food takes light years to get to you
*& of course the order is wrong
*The shaved ice wasn't even that great. Visualize a massive bowl of ice with a maximum of 10 chopped fruits sitting on top & a TEASPOON of condensed milk.

STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!! The parking lot should have been our first signal to RUN AWAY & save ourselves.

This was a definite hangout back in high school and the early part of college. But, as you get older, so do your preference for older people to be around you. That said, Guppy Teahouse keeps it's target demographic in mind and actually starts to alienate the old farts or the newly old farts, like me.

If I do decide to swing by here, it would be to just pick something up and to take it to-go. Only when my Korean or Chinese friends from out of town are here and they are craving late night boba cafe stuff do I come and actually sit at a table. The word-of-mouth that Guppy has achieved is pretty impressive, but I mainly go here for their sake rather than for my own.

The interior is pretty cramped, but they do have a larger patio section which they've recently created a wall for. The ambiance is dark with neon and spot lighting giving more of the light than anything at night. I would hope that this place eventually expands to accommodate more people.

They have good crispy chicken and shaved ice (apparently, that's what they're famous for) because of the large size and generous fruit contained therein. I had noodles here once, and I remember it was pretty good.

The reason why it's three stars: the size of the place can result in long waits for tables and it appeals mainly to a younger, school-aged crowd. And I don't know about you, but I get annoyed seeing people younger than me having a good time. Damn, I really am developing into a grumpy old man.

ZERO stars (it's just not an option, that's why there's one).

It's mind-bottling.

I have absolutely no idea why this place is so popular.  Why would a sane human being actually want to wait for a table at a place with mediocre food at best, drinks your little nieces could make better and piss-poor service?  Actually, comparing the service to piss is an insult to piss, so I hope it can forgive me.

Here's their service at it's best:

You sit down.  You order.  You wait.  You wait.  If you're lucky, you'll receive a part of your order.  You wait.  You wait.  You wait.  You ask the waiter/waitress to check on the status of your order, they tell you it's coming right up.  You wait.  You wait.  You wait.  You wait.  You wait.  You ask again, they tell you it'll be next.  You wait.  You wait.  You wait.

Next thing you know, an hour has passed and you have barely survived on whatever items they managed to get to you.  In that hour, they have never come to check on you once.  You finally get fed up and go to ask why the hell you haven't gotten your order while everyone else around you has, only to get some sorry-ass excuse like, "oh, your ticket slipped onto the ground."

...

Are you fucking kidding me?  Sure, things like that happen, but then again, things like customer service also happen when waiters and waitresses actually attend to tables to see if everything is in order.

We got their "special" that includes a small order of strawberry shaved ice, popcorn chicken and sweet butter toast.  The strawberry shaved ice is nothing special AT ALL.  The ice actually sucks (if ice can actually suck) and the strawberries are not exactly the freshest.  The popcorn chicken was just okay and I guess the sweet butter toast was kinda good based on taste alone (I haven't look at the price for it, but I'm sure I wouldn't like it as much if I knew how much I was paying for it).  I also shared a passion green tea that tasted like some ancient chinese herbal medicine that will kill you before it makes you better.  We both drank it in huge gulps just to get rid of it.  It tasted less like passion green tea and more hot water they dissolved as much sour sugar off of sour belts as they could.

Look, I have been using Yelp for a long time and I have been compelled to write a review for any place.  This so called "teahouse" has left such a bad taste in my mouth that I had to go home and write my first review for it as a service to everyone out there to not come here.  Please do not support a place that has customer service at the very bottom of their list of priorities.  Nothing here is good.  NOTHING.  You can get better food at Tapioca Express. You can get better tea at Teastation.  You can get better shaved ice at...  Okay, I don't know a place but c'mon, come over and I'll make you better shaved ice with my panda-bear ice shaver and I wouldn't charge you an arm and a leg for it.

I have vowed to never come back.

DO NOT GO HERE.

"Guppy Tea House, we had some good times, but I think we need to break up.

You were really fun at first, looked really cute....but now you treat me like shit....."

I had a good friend from out of town staying with me for the weekend and I ended up getting sick. Some hostess right? In any case, I decided to take my friend to the Guppy for their bomb-ass popcorn chicken, and because my throat really hurt and all I wanted was their "avocado rose milk tea."

Ugh.

Let me list off some items of FAIL I just experienced:

1. The sink in the girl's bathroom was full of vomit. It stank to high hell. I told the waitress.

2. When asking what was in the Seafood Kimchee the waitress said "um, what does the menu say?" Five kinds of seafood. "Oh, um, I think its like, lobster.....crab....mussels...shrimp. Yeah. I think."

3. Dirty cups that had to be sent back.

4. Dirty plates that had to be sent back.

5. I usually eat here at night. Their "daytime" popcorn chicken was sub-par.

6. Over-all shitty service....with no acknowledging of such;  no apology, or recourse. On top of the above-mentioned, after discovering my favorite tea was sold out, we had to pay full price for a half order of a tea we didn't order and didn't like, and then got grief from the waiter for trying to argue it.

Explain? OK:

I ordered my "Avocado Rose Milk Tea" and the waitress forgot about it. When asked about it she yelled to another employee: "hey, are you making that tea?" When the pot finally arrived and my guest poured us full cups, it was the wrong tea. It was a sugary almond tea. I told the waitress and she took it back and disappeared. I finally reminded her AGAIN about the tea and she said they JUST ran out. That was the whole reason I had come there! That tea! She asked us if we wanted the other kind.....we said no. When she mentioned the tea she'd made was going to be thrown out anyway, we said "fine, sure, whatever" and took it, half empty since the first cups we'd poured had been thrown out.

After a long wait (in the middle of the day when business was slow too), we manage to flag down a waiter so we can pay and leave. The bill arrives with a $6.99 charge for the tea. WTF? We ask the waiter (not the waitress who had helped up earlier) and he says we have to pay for it since we drank it. When we explained the situation, he went to talk to the manager, who says all we can get is 10% off. My friend hates this place now, and felt bad that my already shitty day was made shittier and I couldn't even have the tea I'd wanted. He'd been forced to pay for some cold "pawned-off fuck-up tea."

I gave this place a good review before, even though I'd literally been burned by the staff twice in the past (once with boiling water on my leg, and once with hot soup on my lap), but this was really lame.  I don't know if I'll be back.....and I'm suggesting my friends do the same. Maybe it'll give the Guppy a clue to clean up their act.

It sucks too since so few places are open late and I DID love their tea......

when i first heard about this place my thoughts were

"$10 bucks for a bowl of shaved ice? ice like the ones in my freezer? seriously?"

but having tried their special of spicy popcorn chicken, warm toasted coconut toast, and a small (looked more like a large) bowl of shaved ice filled with ice cream, coconut milk and a ton of fresh fruit, i was sold.

although the shaved ice was delicious, what sold me on this place was its coconut toast. it was beautifully arranged on a textured glass plate with this decadent syrup splashed on it. the outside of the large piece of toast (keep in mind we were feeding 6 people) looked to be crisp golden brown toasted. after a few pictures and stares, we proceed to cut the toast only to find out the inside was still unbelievably moist and soft on the inside. only a thin layer of the crust was nicely toasted and the inside was steaming hot and melt in your mouth soft. the combination of the two textures gave my tastebuds a happy dance.

it made sense after tasting this treat why we ended up waiting nearly an hour before we could get a table and the large masses of crowds standing in the middle of the parking lot.

i have only been here during late night so am not really sure on what the crowd control is like during the day and dinner time but come early just in case.

best toast i have ever had!

What's the hype surrounding Guppy Teahouse? Sure, the gigantic shaved ice is picture worthy but it only settles at that. Nothing about it is good - there's too much condensed milk and the fruit is not particularly fresh since they pre-cut gigantic batches that sits out the entire day. The quality of the tea? Don't get me started. You cannot call yourself a teahouse when you don't serve TEA. All it is is a cup of fructose, water, and wimpy boba. The hot "tea" doesn't even come out hot.

I will, however, say that their butter toast is better than some I've tried at other places.

The food is ridiculously high priced - with meals starting at $10 and a pot of hot tea starting at $6.

I feel ashamed for having come here three too many visits. Will I make another? Definitely not. Never again. NEVER. Please come here only if you want poor customer service, sub par food, and a waste of your time and money. Guppy Teahouse, in my most HUMBLE opinion, deserves negative ratings.

This is a fun place if you can get a table. The service is kind of slow, but then again, you're just there to hang out so you haven't anywhere to go anyways. It always feels like I'm on the jungle cruise ride at Disneyland when I'm there because of all the fish tanks and plants around. The cool thing about this place is that it's open late.

The drinks are good. In the winter it's nice to have a hot almond milk tea. My friends and I used to come here back in college and it was always full of students. Now when we go back there we're looked at by the youngin's as the old folks rollin' through. Really puts your age into perspective. Thanks you little punks!

Overall, Guppy's is a fun and lively place if you're a teenager or still in college. The drinks are good and the servers are nice. Try their desserts like shaved iced. It's huge and can be shared by 4 people.

This is what i waited over six years of my life to try?...seriously?

Back in High School, kids would always rave about this place,
"oh, it's soo great...blah blah blah"
"hey, let's go to guppys after prom..."
"screw class, let's go to guppys..."

So what? ...it took me over six years to be cool like the other kids...but now that i've tried it, i've come to a realization...

...cool kids are idiots who love to waste money on crap! (haha)

Honestly though, like everyone mentioned, this place is a cool place to "kick it." Guppys brings out MANY people from ALL walks of life....there's no knowing what kind of people you'll run into.

The food however? wth.

I came here last night with a friend of mine since I got out of class early and I didn't want to drive home just to be in an empty house all by myself, so we decided on guppys...
 We ordered:
-Strawberry boba
-Strawberry watermelon boba
-popcorn chicken (mild)
-sweet and sour popcorn chicken
...what a disappointment.

My boba drink was UBER sweet and the boba wasn't cooked all the way.  The popcorn chicken and s&s chicken were okay...(is it weird that i think tastea's is better?)

I came to a point where I actually got full on this...but was extremely disappointed because it wasn't satisfying...and it didn't hit the spot. Such a waste of a meal :(

Next time, if i do come back, i need to try the shaved ice!!! I've heard soo much about it!  (I didn't this time because the two of us would highly unlikely be able to finish that huge  tub of of shaved ice....it would have been a waste)

Now that i've been Guppys-de-virginalized....it's kinda good to know that all those years that I've heard soo much about it, i really haven't been missing out on much....

TAKE THAT PEER PRESSURE!!!! :D\
...mama taught me well. haha

The hubby and I were out of town for a business trip and was invited here for dessert by my cousin who's a local to the area.

The tea house is located in a prime location.  There are many many eateries nearby.

The concept of the tea house was new to me.  When he suggested this place for dessert, I questioned?? The tea houses in San Diego serve up simple snacks and sweet drinks with boba... so that's what I had expected.

We visited the spot around 9 pm on a Wednesday night and to my surprise, the place was packed!

If it sounded like an alright spot, then why the 2 stars you ask??? I took an average of the important aspects one takes into consideration when coming to a conclusion of rating.

I gave it 5 stars for the overall tea house concept and the huge bowl mixed fruit with shaved ice, both of those I had yet to see in SD.  The mixed fruit with shaved ice was enough to feed an army... There were 4 of us and there was still plenty they took home to throw into their blender for smoothies the next morning.  My cousin also ordered the popcorn chicken... mild (i guess you can pick the level of hotness) served with rice. That dish was very good. It was crispy, and had just the right amount of hotness... which had the spicy kick but yet comfortable enough to eat without overheating your mouth.

Right off the bat, I was turned off by the B food grade posted in their window.  How can a place that serves mainly shaved ice and fresh cut up fruit receive a B grade??? That being said, minus 2 stars for that...

Lastly, I had to strip them of one more star just for the way that their bouncer slash waiter treated to my hubby... he had gone outside to make a phone call, as he returned, the bouncer slash waiter sternly said to him, what are you doing here... what do you want??? WTF? customer service definitely sucks here...

would i return?? probably not just because of the customer service alone... but it was definitely well worth the experience...

I was playing tourist last week in the LA area so me and my bf met up some friends who showed us Guppy's Teahouse. Right when you walk into the establishment, you can tell it's a cool place to bring a casual date or even hangout all night with friends. People are playing cards and smoking on the outside patio and watching tv inside. It's a "hip" place, neon lights everywhere but it isn't too obnoxious.

I ordered a Green Milk Tea with Boba (for me) , a large mango and strawberry shaved ice, and a chocolate and condensed milk brick toast for the 5 of us.

The milk tea was really good. It's been a while since I've found a place that has good tapioca balls. It was just right, chewy but not hard and sweet. The milk tea was on the stronger side which is something I like. Nothing too watered down.

The brick toast was HUGE. It was good, very sweet but you definitely have to share. There is no way you can finish this with 2 people.

This must be the place where people take pictures of all those crazy huge shaved ice mountains. The large was GIGANTIC SO BIG YOU'D THINK THEY MADE IT FOR A GIANT. The 5 of us couldn't even eat half of it. A lot of complaining about brain freezes and cold teeth at this point but it was yummy. The fruit was very fresh.

All in all, I loved it! Can't wait to come back on my next trip.

Described to me as having fantastically delicious and wonderfully popular shaved ice (dessert consisting of shaved ice, condensed milk, red bean, and assorted fruits), I arrived on the best of days - warm and sunny. Unfortunately, I was also supremely full after a majorly huge lunch at the Corner Place. I had the kind of tummy bursting fullness where you want to lie down, loosen your pants, and breathe through the pain. I wasn't in the best shape to enjoy The Guppy. As this was a special treat, I sucked it up and willed myself to digest quickly as I could, not that that made any difference.

The Guppy has a quickly under-the-sea theme going on. There were netting and seashells and aquatic blue paint.. you know, the whole shebang. There was even an outside fenced-in sitting area with umbrella-ed tables. We sat there waiting for our order to arrive.

Now, until then, I have not had this kind of shaved ice for a long long time. Condensed milk is a gastronomic enemy of mine you see. We ordered the standard shaved ice with lots of fruit.... and no condensed milk Yay for me!

The shaved ice was really delicious, which is quite a feat for a person with no more stomach capacity to spare. It had lots and lots of mango. A lot a lot.  I focused more on the other fruits (strawberries and such) and tried to spoon the mangos away for the most part. I'm not a big fan of mangoes, you see. I will order it sometimes to which I may recieve the response "why do you order stuff you don't even like". Knowing how much it's enjoyed, I want to like it too. When you eat a thing often enough, you may develop a taste for it.

So Mr. Guppy, because of your delicious delicious shaved ice, I dislike mangoes a little bit less and like them just a little bit more. Just a bit. Bravo.

well, this is a good place to kick it. It's a nice hang out of teenagers late at night, and it gets super crowded.

I like this place, but it was never on my number one place to go when i want to go out.

When this place opened, it was THE spot to go to for hanging out late.
If you went to Cerritos High School, you're basically bound to run into a person you know.

Anyways, I think the highlight of this place is their Brick Toast.
Everything else is okay. The service is hard to get because it's practically busy around the clock. Do not get the popcorn chicken unless you're really hungry. They throw so much seasoning on it to make it "spicy" when it in fact its just really really salty that it stings your taste buds.

On a hot day, the shaved ice is good stuff. I think they're rationing it a bit from what i've heard lately. More ice and less topping?

Either way, it's a good place to socialize or catch up with an old someone.

If you're not a fan of smoke, stay inside.

the shaved ice is soo good here! but the service does suck. I ordered dumplings, but I didn't get them till all my other friends were already done eating their meals. I think about 50 minutes or so? I could have been a jerk and asked for my money back or something. haha, but lucky i'm nice. So, they just need work on their service.

The shaved ice? I've had the strawberry and mango and the red bean with sweet potato. They were both very tasty. You can also get an extra bottle of condensed milk for 2$ if you like. MMmm condensed milk..

I've had their seafood soup which is pretty intense looking. It comes in a hot pot and there's fresh seafood in it. Tasty but a lot of work to eat if you want to peel shrimp and crab.

I've heard so much about this place and never ever visited before, so it was inevitable when hanging out with a bunch of gluttonous yelpers that when everyone wanted to go, you end up going as well.

As I walked up to the door I already saw the ginormous 'fruit bowl' laden with various items at a table. The first thing out of my mouth was 'holy shit'. I mean how is it possible that 3 people can finish that trough of shaved ice??? Well, I guess we're about to find out.

So here we were, all 12 of us. They couldn't accommodate us inside so we had to sit outside in the heat. Thankfully they put us in the shade. We got the shaved ice special for $25, some of us even got drinks.... not me. I was already dreading the massive dessert we were about to get.

When it arrived I wasn't as shocked as I would've been had I not seen it before hand. It was kinda obscene really. I mean that bowl could fit a newborn baby no problem so you can imagine how huge it is. Everyone was kinda being polite so I was like start scooping already since this IS ice and it's gonna melt real fast with us sitting out here in the heat.

I got some ice, some red bean, condensed milk and bananas. The idea of ice cream mixed in just didn't quite do it for me. The other fruits: strawberries and mangos also didn't quite mesh in my idea of shaved ice so I didn't take any of that either.

The first thing that came to mind was the shaved ice at Milk + Honey. I guess it was unfair of me to compare, but I did. There is just no comparison. M+H is the fine dining of shaved ice and Guppy? Well, Guppy is its poor cousin.

The shaved ice was coarse and the sensation was just not there. You get chunks of ice with each mouthful and it was just bleh. After the finely shaved slushy refined shaved ice at M+H this was less than mediocre in comparison.

I guess what you get here is quantity -- lots and lots of it in fact. You're getting a massive amount of stuff but without much substance.

They also have food but I didn't try it since we had just come from lunch. When the Irvine location opens I'm gonna give the food a try. As for the shaved ice? I think I'll stick with M+H, thanks!

I had shave ice with strawberry, mango and red bean. It was all the items I liked. I didn't want the stuff I didn't like so the person scooping didn't put it into my bowl.

For what I had it was good. I enjoyed it.

I came here after dim sum with a bunch of yelper friends....

The host service was pretty good. While there was no seating inside, they were able to accommodate our party of twelve quickly and efficiently. We sat in the parking lot, though that was our own choice, since the patio area was dreadfully sunny and Cerritos was notoriously hot.

We ordered the super shaved ice, which consisted of shaved ice, condensed milk, strawberries, mango, bananas, red bean, and three scoops of ice cream. The ice was really chunky, which made it hard to eat, and the fruit was pretty sour. The mango ice cream was actually pretty good though. This is definitely a dish you order for the humor rather than anything else. It's like 3 gallons of ice.... craziness...

While not the best shaved ice, Guppy is a fun place to chill with a large group. Two stars for their shaved ice and an extra star for their good service, which includes eye candy.

Really bad service. Wait, did I just mention service? I meant to say there isn't such a word at this joint.

Food and price are OK, somewhat authentic taiwanese food flavor, consider I used to live in Austin, I'm easily satisfied.

So, if I were heartless, I'd just come here, order, eat, take my check, pay at the counter, and leave without any tips. I'm too nice to do that though but their PEOPLE are seriously keeping me away from this place.

I meant it.

I just saw this review on the home page, strange. I just came back from there about 30 minutes ago. Here we go, on with the review!

The location is genius. Since everything in the city of Cerritos closes at around 10pm (lame), The owner, Kevin, opened this place in the nestled area of Artesia. This nestled area, is where Cerritos envelopes a piece of Artesia. Artesia in response must have felt a bit threatened judging by their yearly  makeovers on Pioneer bld (palm trees, center dividers, new stores, fountains, etc. ) Aside from all that, I remember when Kevin interviewed me a few years back (right when I got out of high school) and I was interviewed to work there until Johnny Rockets offered me a job. Okay this isn't a part of the review, but common, let's have some background stories for some personality right? Right.

PROS: Opens late night. Youthful atmosphere (music, glowing lights, rowdy kids). Usually enough parking (You can park all inside that complex) Popcorn chicken isn't too bad. Shaved ice is super yummy. I love butter coconut toast!

CONS: Youthful atmosphere (rowdy kids). Sometimes ridiculous wait times (15 min- 1 hour) (I mean, this ain't no four star restaurant). Cheap outside furniture (IKEA $99 table + chairs deals). Extra charge for condensed milk sauce.

Guppy Teahouse feels more like a high school ran joint. It's populous is mostly Asian American high school / college kids. It's really great when you want a Denny's alternative (I don't want to hate, but Denny's = o__o NOOOOO!!!! Friends don't let friends eat Denny's). Go there when you want some okay tea, shaved iced, butter coconut toast (snacks).

I agree with many of the reviews. The service is pretty bad and they take forever. I do like the food and that's what the 3 stars are for. The shaved ice is good, but now they charge $2 for the extra condensed milk so i was pretty surprised at that. The popcorn chicken with my spiciness is always good and the boba is alright. It's a fun place to go with a group of people, but sometimes the wait can go for a long time and it gets really busy. I've heard the brick toast and pineapple fried rice is good so i'll probably try that the next time i go.

WOW! and it was fucking 6 dollars. the owner is a greedy ass taiwanese. i suggest to by a 70 cent can of condensed milk instead of paying 2 dollars for a smaller version. wtf!. and the worst service with the shittiest food.

I'm giving them one star because of the 4 times I've visited here this summer alone, it's been a terrible experience.

First is the terrible service where once you get seated... (and it doesn't matter if it's crowded that day or pretty vacant, b/c it'll take a while) their waiter/waitresses never even come to take your order.  We had to literally get up and go to the counter to order.  Once they deliver the food (Which I used to love) a minimum of 20 minutes later, don't expect to see them again.  Even if you asked for sauce, cups for the water jug they give you, or the check.

Finally, I give up on Guppy Teahouse.   I suppose they hire untrained high school kids because that's really who they're catering to nowadays.

Perhaps I'll try the one on Jamboree (Irvine) sometime.  But if you find yourself going here, I hope you hit better luck than I did.

OMG the shaved ice portions are mammoth. A small can easily satisfy 4 really dehydrated people. I don't even need the fruit, just give me shaved ice smothered in condensed milk and I'll be a happy camper!

Yum on the brick toast - it could use more condensed milk though.
The popcorn chicken had more breading than chicken, so I was disappointed in that.

Well, well, well...

First off, long wait. Granted we were a party of 8 - the place was small. So waiting on a table could take a few minutes. Don't go on an empty sweet tooth. *wink wink* There is seating both inside and out. Guppy Teahouse set a very modernistic jungle, rain forest, mini paneled aquariums filled with guppies, plants everywhere type of mood. Yeah, it's ''cozy.''

The menu offers a variety of dishes which I will be back to try. But we just had dinner nearby and wanted to try out Guppy's desserts. We order (for a party of 8) 1 large strawberry / mango shaved iced which is mixed with condensed milk (menu stated that a large was good for 4, it was just enough for 8 people - it's HUGE!) and 2 orders of the rich creamy butter on thick toast which is slowly baked in the oven (highly recommended). I tell you, I can speak for the whole table here...it was absolutely yummy!

Because we had all shared our dishes amongst a group of 8 people, we all only had to pitch in $5/ each. Now, imagine we had chosen to go to Starbucks nearby.....hmm...

*Side note - Expect dropped / fixed up civics with a handful of teeny-bop Asians hovering over Guppy's like it was the only place their parents allowed them to go to on a Sunday night. "Yeah, it's like that."

The good: this is one of the only late-night hang out spots around Cerritos.  and you can get pretty much all the standard Taiwanese goodies when you're having the munchies attack.
The bad: when you're 27 years old, you feel OLD here

This type of restaurant reminds me of a place for a youth's Friday night fellowship. Literally this is a place for young kids in Cerritos to hang out after the 10p curfew. I do have to say that the brick toast is awfully good, and the "grilled chicken gizzard" makes this place unique. But beware for people almost close to their 30's, this place would make you feel real old fast.
