I am a fan of cupcake liners. I love collecting them so that when I bake something, I can just pull it out and use it instead of the generic pink, light blue, yellow, and foil liners that they have at the supermarket. I should upload a picture later, but I have a very small collection of cupcake liners that I've found from holiday sales, small shops, big commercial stores and it just makes me jump with glee every time I glance at them.

I am a strange person, this I already know.

I used to pass by this way when I took a detour from work to home and I noticed the large, brown sign of Calico, advertising it's presence. I was making a list a while back, considering which places I could work at, learn the tricks of the trade, etcetera, when I realized that I had heard about them being a supply store as well. I realized then that I could just pick up some supplies, finish my book !, and be happy knowing that I wasn't wasting gas by going over to Williams-Sonoma or Crate & Barrel nor paying the high prices tagged in those oh-so-lovely-money-sucking stores.

So, I brought myself over there just today, walked in, and stared at everything with big eyes. The store space itself isn't that large, but baking supplies generally don't take up a lot of space unless you have a lot of them to begin with. (see: my cupboard) Considering all those factors, Calico had a hefty amount of supplies.

The front side is dedicated to cake toppers, edible candy ornaments, carriers, birthday supplies, and some decorative boxes. There may be more that I might have just missed. The back side has .. I don't even know, more decorative boxes, big-supply boxes (think of those pink cake boxes), chocolate quarters by the pound, special icing tips, icing, coloring, cookie cutters, cook-books, a door or two to the bakery, candy molds, and ... I know I'm missing more, but that's all I can recall at the moment.

I do remember that they don't have a large selection of baking pans. I mean, yes, they do have the standard round tins and cookie sheets, but I saw only one madeleine pan in stock and very few special tins. However, they do have the cake-cupcake-pan, so if you're trying to make yourself a giant cup-cake, then come here! It's only $25.

They have a minimum charge of $10 on Mastercard, Visa, and debit cards have that minimum requirement as well as an extra 50 cent charge for debit-ness. They no longer accept checks and they don't accept bills greater than $20.

ordered a cake here for my 18th birthday..and it was HUGE!! i couldnt have asked for a better cake.  and there were maybe about 8 different cakes in different sizes, each with a different filling. There was a fountain, and staircases and it was just fabulous.  The price was unbelievably low as we have been to other cake shops, and their prices were beyond our budget.

I have been back because you can make your own chocolate candies.  They have every mold you can imagine, well almost any.  But when you want to melt colored chocolates to make candy party favors, this is the place to go!

read about this place from a yelp talk thread and omg i'm in love!
you walk in and the place smells like delicious cake, i wanted to stick my tongue out and see if i'd catch some yummy!

they have just about everything you need for making desserts.  they also offer classes.  there's a bakery too but they do quotes by individual orders.

you have to spend a minimum of $10 if you plan on using your credit or debit card.  no checks!

I WILL BE BACK at least once a week!

I found this place off of the internet because I needed a place to make a custom cake.  It's a little shop that when you walk in, you can just smell the sugar in the air.  Then you're faced with a tremendous amount of baking supplies and decorations.  Everything you need you can find here.  It was heaven for me.  Chocolate molds, cupcake toppings, boxes, fondant, EVERYTHING.  The sales lady was also very nice.  I told her what I needed for the cake and drew a little picture for her and she was more than accomodating.  It was cheaper than I expected, especially since it was so last minute, the whole cake was $45 and it was huge.  It didn't turn out exactly how I imagined a cop car should be and the lines aren't as clean as I would have done it..but it was cute...and it tasted scrumptious too, which I was really surprised about.  The car was covered in fondant and it was an actual cake on top of another rectangular shaped caked,  really moist and light and the filling not to sweet (chocolate cake with chocolate chocolate chip filling).  You can pick from several different flavors of cake and filling.  I LOVE THIS PLACE!!
