I was walking around downtown Fullerton earlier, wondering if it was going to be like Belmont Shores with a lot of cool stores or just like the Y said, boring. I walked and walked and found myself finding a lot of places that looked neat, but weren't open yet. I also found myself getting hungry, but not quite knowing what I wanted to munch on.

I found Cafe` con Leche by walking through Wilshire and cutting through the parking lots to get to my car parked off Amerige. It looked neat, colorful, but very empty. Taking in mind that it was 7 pm on a Friday evening, it was dead -- the only people inside were the family that owned the joint. Their kids or nieces were rolling around on the ground, bored, and trying to find something to do.

They opened up about a month and a half ago but still, some things were missing from their place. Their bakery item selections were very small. They don't make the pastries themselves but rather, order from "the best Mexican bakery in Santa Ana". The drink prices are found on a sheet of paper in front of the register -- hard to find if you're looking at the board top of the espresso machine with their drink selections.

They only had regular beans and no decaf. Luckily, my body didn't protest as much as it used to, so maybe they used bold beans (not as much caffeine as light beans). I ordered a small iced mexi-mocha which didn't taste any different than an iced mocha from either Starbucks or the Bean. It was refreshing though. I also bought their packaged flan which didn't go down well -- it wasn't very cold in temperature, though it was held on the cold side of their display case. I'm not sure what went wrong there.

I don't know how much I paid for each individual item. They have a sign posted that the flan is $1.75, but for the total of two items, I paid $7.06. That means, without the flan and estimating the tax amount, I paid about $4.25 for a small iced drink. I don't understand it. I would refer back to my receipt, but the woman who rang me up messed up on the register and I had to tell her how much change she owed me. ($20.26-7.06=$13)

The interior is very colorful - very bright primary colors adorn the walls and a hot magenta colors half of the restroom. The restroom doesn't seem like it's handicap-friendly, but then again -- the entrance to this joint isn't handicap-friendly (stairs and no ramp way). They put a lot of thought in the interior decorating.

I can't quite place my finger on it, but it feels like they're incomplete in some areas of their business. Perhaps it was the lack of a crowd or the mysterious bill.

Cafe con Leche! Finally I comfortable non-corporate coffee shop where you can get good coffee and some good studying.  There is free internet access and tamales! This is what really sets Cafe con Leche apart from any other coffee shop and the fact that it is also a community space for events such as movie nights and a place where you can find Chican@ art and accessories just adds to the amaziness of the place.

WoW...I'm shocked to see only one review for this shop!  I found it to be AMAZING!  Cafe Con Leche is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!  It has a very cozy atmosphere, you feel like you're in your neighbors backyard, very relaxing!!!  The drinks and pastries are very soothing to the tounge ;0)  The review on here states that it is not wheelchair accessable but perhaps she missed the ramp on the oposite side of the stairs?  It is a PERFECT location for a coffee date with friends!!!  The service is great, the owners are very friendly and welcoming!  I have been to a few of their recent events all of which have brought in a large crowd.  I would strongly recommend anyone to take a quick visit!!
